AutoCamp is an innovative Airstream resort with locations in Santa Barbara, the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County and Yosemite, California. Inspired by the wanderlust and adventure of the great American road trip, AutoCamp is an unparalleled luxury Airstream camping experience for people who love the outdoors.

Our team worked in close partnership with the hospitality brand to develop an unprecedented boutique hotel destination, elevated through innovative architecture and unique guest amenities. Anacapa designed the AutoCamp Russian River site, including a 3,000 square foot mid-century modern inspired Clubhouse, 24 Custom Airstreams and 10 Luxury Tents. Interior furnishings and decor were fashioned by San Francisco-based Geremia Design.

The 3,000 square foot open-air Clubhouse was designed to enhance the sensory experience of the surrounding landscape while offering shelter from winter climatic conditions. Upon arrival to the hotel's formal motor court, the Clubhouse establishes a strong sense of arrival - its low profile design juxtaposed with the extreme verticality of the surrounding redwood forest. The structure's entryway offers a transparent view of the hotel's grounds, which include a sprawling meadow of native grasses, circulated by private Airstream and luxury tent accommodations and communal gathering spaces. The Clubhouse blurs the boundary between indoors and outdoors, offering immersive views of the surrounding redwood trees and adjacent creek, from the patio and interior spaces alike.

Drawing inspiration from the iconic Barcelona Pavilion by Mies van der Rohe and the Kauffman House by Richard Neutra, the Clubhouse is strongly influenced by modern, minimalist design. Designed to cultivate socialization, the Clubhouse houses a reception area and communal dining, gathering and event spaces. Mid-century modern furnishings and finishes, including a suspended steel fireplace, characterize the space.

Elevated four feet above grade, the Clubhouse is built with materials that will withstand extreme climatic conditions, and naturally weather and patina over time, including board-formed concrete walls, rough-sawn redwood ceilings and blackened steel.

Winner of the AIA Santa Barbara Honor Award - Commercial Buildings & Interiors - Clubhouse (2018)
