RENDER 1_Final.jpg

Located on a wildlife preserve along the Central Coast of California, this modern ranch barn boasts spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Nestled into the hillside, we exercised extreme sensitivity to minimize the barn’s visibility, both to and from neighboring properties. Working in compliance with the stringent environmental protections and regulations in the area, we preserved the neighboring oak trees and introduced some off-grid features; the barn has its own well and septic tank.

This raw, graceful utilitarian barn is located in a high fire hazard area. As such, the material palette was selected from a standpoint of environmental sensitivity as well as fire resistance. The structure features a standing seam metal roof, cedar siding and heavy timber posts and beams with exposed structural bracing.
